The Bachelor of Science (B.S.) with a Microbiology major is suitable for pre-med, pre-dental, pre-vet and pre-pharmacy students. Courses may include general microbiology, prokaryotic biology, pathogenic microbiology, bacterial genetics, environmental microbiology and biotechnology. The department also provides intensive laboratory courses and independent research opportunities.
This degree provides a solid foundation for advanced degrees in public health and biological sciences, as well as careers in environmental and industrial microbiology, public health, research, pharmaceutical and medical sales, and quality assurance in government agencies and many industries: agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and biotech.
Campus Entry Requirements
- Completion of a minimum of 60 semester hours of transferable credit by the application deadline.
- Transfer GPA of at least 2.80 as calculated by the UGA Undergraduate Admissions Office (For Spring 2025 and afterward, the transfer GPA will be 3.00).
- Graduation from high school at least 12 months prior to term of enrollment at UGA Griffin.
- Completion of at least one year of college by the term of intended enrollment at UGA Griffin.
