Derrick Lemons, the chair of the Committee on Intercollegiate Athletics, highlighted the academic performance of UGA’s student athletes during the fall, as the semester saw a 3.3 grade point average (GPA) for all sports — the highest fall GPA on record.

“This is quite amazing that our academic professionals … are able to guide our athletes, and then [the athletes are] able to put in the work to pull out this type of achievement,” Lemons said.

UGA President Jere Morehead discussed the success of UGA Miracle’s recent philanthropic event — Dance Marathon — as well as Dawg Day of Giving and Honors Week in his president’s report.

“Dawg Day of Giving set a new single-day record. This [is] now a new record for the fifth year in a row, with over 13,000 gifts made to the University of Georgia on that day,” Morehead said. “The generous support of our alumni and friends has resulted in contributions being made to each of our colleges and schools during that day, along with a number of departments, programs and other initiatives across the campus.”

Morehead announced that Fiona Liken, the associate vice president for instruction and registrar, will retire from UGA in June.

“Fiona has served in her current role as the secretary of this body since at least 2017 — maybe before that — but she has provided nearly four decades of service to the University of Georgia, and I would say that service has been simply extraordinary,” Morehead said.
